Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastien Kehl has a ‘dream’ to sign Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha in January, but his wages could prove to be a problem.

That’s according to BILD, who cover Dortmund’s renewed interest in the Ivory Coast international today after also being linked in the past.

They explain that Kehl is ‘working hard in the background’ on new signings for Dortmund, planning ahead for the remainder of the campaign but also next season.

His ‘dream’ is to sign Zaha on a free transfer, with his Crystal Palace contract ending in the summer and him free to talk to clubs around Europe from January 1st.

He has been a target for several years but never left Selhurst Park, but there is a growing feeling that could happen in the coming months and Dortmund are again in the race.

BILD say that is because Zaha wants to play Champions League football, something Dortmund can offer him.

The problem is his ‘princely’ wage packet, which is reported to be around €8m a year at Crystal Palace; a figure Dortmund would find it difficult to match.

They do have the player and his qualities on their list ‘in pencil’ at the moment, though, and could firm up their interest in the coming weeks as Kehl dreams of a free transfer deal.
