Cody Gakpo has told ESPN that Manchester United remain a serious option for him, while there are ‘other options’ for him to leave PSV Eindhoven in the final week of the window.
The winger also admitted the “whole picture has to be right” for him to leave the Dutch club.
De Telegraaf’s Valentijn Driessen says the 23-year-old has to decide what is best for him, whether to sign a new deal with PSV or move to a foreign league, where Manchester United ‘seem to be in pole position’.
The journalist takes a look at ‘what weighs the most’ to help the Netherlands international make his final decision.
If the Dutchman wants money, then he should move abroad. If he opts to continue with Eredivisie side, then it will almost guarantee him a ticket to the Qatar World Cup.
Driessen has issued a warning to the player that a move to Manchester United or another top European club doesn’t guarantee him game time. Although Gakpo’s suitors have a plan for him, he will not accept it blindly.
With Erik ten Hag’s side in the picture, the De Telegraaf journalist states Gakpo will be ‘playing Russian roulette’ if he picks an adventure abroad.
Over at Brabants Dagblad, they have relayed comments made by the player himself about the options he has to leave the club. PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is ‘not happy’ with the situation his side are currently in because of Gakpo.
“Your best players may still be bought out now, but you can’t do anything beforehand. Each day that passes, the time to respond is shorter. It remains to be seen whether it will be possible to find a replacement at all. We have to make the most of it,” Van Nistelrooy told ESPN.
