On May 1st, Sport explained that Barcelona would be encouraged to sell Ronald Araújo if Manchester United or another club were to table a €100m bid in the summer window.
A day later, the same outlet stated the Red Devils are serious about the defender and have informed his entourage that they will present a formal offer, if he decides to leave the Camp Nou.
Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo mentions Manchester United’s interest in Araújo, in a report that talks about the contract situations of a few Barca players.
Pau Cubarsí has committed his future to the La Liga side by signing a new deal until 2027, and Barcelona and their sporting director, Deco, have a few more cases to resolve shortly. This includes extending the Uruguay international’s contract.
Araújo’s deal lasts until 2026 and includes a release clause of €1bn. The 25-year-old has stated that he’s happy with his life at Barcelona and will continue to fight until his last minute with the club.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are ‘on the prowl’ to sign the centre-back. Barca seem to be trying to fend off both Erik ten Hag’s side and Bayern, by extending his deal.
Mundo say Barcelona have proposed a new deal, but Araújo hasn’t responded yet as he’s in ‘no hurry’. If the South American doesn’t respond in the coming weeks, Barcelona would consider making him available on the market.
