Barcelona spent big in the summer transfer window, but Xavi Hernandez still isn’t pleased with his squad.
He wants a right-back and midfielder in the January market ahead of another ‘revolution’ of signings in the next summer window. Due to La Liga Financial Fair Play rules, it’s likely Barca will only be able to sign one player in the winter.
Sport say the preference is a right-back, and that’s where Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot comes into the picture. The Portugal international is having his best season so far and will be going to the Qatar World Cup in good form.
The Catalan newspaper state Dalot’s Manchester United contract expires in June 2023, and that he has ‘not yet started talks’ for a renewal. What they fail to mention is the Red Devils having an option to extend that deal by a further season, taking him to the end of June 2024.
That’s crucial as it would mean Barcelona having to spend a relatively big fee in January and that’s not really what they’re aiming for. So whilst Dalot may be a transfer idea for Barcelona, the reality is they’d struggle to get a deal done.
