According to a claim in the Italian media, Manchester United sent a representative to the game between Empoli and Napoli at the weekend.
Tutto Mercarto Web report Manchester United were in attendance during Napoli’s 1-0 win over Empoli, a victory which keeps Antonio Conte’s side top of Serie A.
It’s claimed the English side were getting a lowdown on Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Alessandro Buongiorno. Both players impressed on Sunday, with Kvaratskhelia scoring the winner from the penalty spot.
Napoli are trying to tie Kvaratskhelia to a long-term deal, with his current contract set to expire in June 2027. However, the Georgian international’s wage demands have become an issue for Napoli and subsequently they’re yet to reach an agreement with the winger.
There’s also the issue of the player’s camp wanting a buyout clause, which could be around €100m.
Buongiorno arrived from Torino in the summer for a fee which could rise to €40m with add ons. The defender is expected to cost more than €70m.
In reality, there’s every chance TMW are guessing at who is being watched, but that a Manchester United scout was in attendance shows there’s potential interest in someone.
