Manchester United and Arsenal sent officials to watch the match between FC Porto and Vitória de Guimarães on Saturday.
Porto won the match 3-0 and the attending scouts will likely have been left impressed with several performances.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, who have published the scouting list, picked out Oliver Torres as their star man. Oliver arrived at Porto, again on loan from Atletico Madrid, in the summer transfer window and has quickly gone about impressing the club’s fans.
Both clubs have previously been linked with Porto’s Ruben Neves, who has had an up and down time since breaking through at the club.
He again started the match on the bench, coming on with 15 minutes left to replace Oliver. The 19 year old midfielder has been frustrated at times under new manager Nuno Espírito Santo, and last month was seen in tears after the coach changed his mind about brining him on as his final substitute.
That was during the Champions League match against AS Roma, and Manchester United and Arsenal also had scouts watch that match. Jose Mourinho club’s last week sent someone to watch Portugal’s U21 team beat Greece, and Neves played in the match, as did Porto’s young attacking midfielder Diogo Jota.
Manchester United have really ramped up their scouting staff over the summer, taking on new representatives in Europe and South America.
