On June 29th, we covered claims from Spain that Manchester United have become the latest club to join the race for Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez. It was also reported the Premier League side have initiated contact to sign him this summer.
Thursday’s edition of Sport mentions Manchester United’s interest in the left-back when talking about his future.
The La Liga side signed the left-back from Real Madrid in 2022, and they can take him back by exercising the €8m buyback option, which will be reduced to €6m in 2025.
Gutiérrez has a €35m clause in his contract with Girona, and if they were to sell him, Los Blancos will be entitled to receive 50% of fee.
The Champions League winners have to decide whether to exercise the buyback clause. Ferland Mendy and Fran García are the two left-backs at Real Madrid, and the report says they could consider selling Gutiérrez if they decide to bring him back to the club.
Sport claim several clubs have shown interest in the 22-year-old, who starred for Girona last season and even managed two goals and nine assists from 40 games.
If he were to be sold abroad this summer, it’s claimed Manchester United are the ‘number one candidate’ to sign him, despite claims of interest from other clubs. However, Erik ten Hag’s side aren’t willing to offer €35m for the Spaniard.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggled with injuries last season and the report suggests this could force the Red Devils to ‘dig deep into their pockets’ to sign Gutiérrez.
