João Neves’ season for Benfica has been more than enough to draw interest from a few clubs, with Manchester United and Arsenal being linked to him.
The Red Devils chase has been reported by the Portuguese media for months, and with the English press now saying the Gunners also pursue him, SIC Notícias bring a little debate on which club would be a better fit for him.
The Jogo Aberto show had pundits Luís Aguilar and Mariana Fernandes both agreeing that Manchester United would stand as better suitors than Arsenal, and there are a few factors for that.
Aguilar points out the Red Devils have been interested for longer, with contacts with agent Jorge Mendes already happening. It’s said ‘everything would be easier’ for a move to Old Trafford, as he’d have a bigger chance to find a place in the team.
Fernandes agrees with him, saying that since Arsenal are currently in a better situation, Neves would find more difficulty in getting a spot, especially because he’d be signed as an alternative for Declan Rice. That sounds unlikely as the youngster is expected to cost over €100m.
It’s pointed out that Manchester United have a ‘terror’ in their defensive midfield, and the Portuguese starlet would ‘immediately have a place’ in the team.
