On March 27th, Sport stated Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rúben Neves was negotiating a deal to join Manchester United in the summer.
The midfielder has a contract expiring in 2024 and has been regularly linked with a move to Barcelona.
Monday’s Sport talks about the 26-year-old’s desire to join the La Liga side and also about Manchester United’s approach.
The Portugal international understands his cycle at Wolves ‘has ended’ and has set his sights on making a switch to the Camp Nou. He has prioritised signing for the Blaugrana over Premier League clubs.
Neves is waiting for an opportunity to arrive at Barca, even though he’s aware his signing doesn’t generate consensus within the club.
The Wolves star’s name was ruled out internally at Barca before resurfacing due to their financial needs. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has always believed an opportunity would arise for his client.
Neves has given his approval to be included as part of an exchange deal involving Ansu Fati. The two players share the same agent.
For now, there’s nothing closed because Fati isn’t keen to leave Barcelona, but Mendes hasn’t lost hope.
Therefore, Neves has paralysed any approaches he has received from Manchester United and other Premier League sides until he finds out about Barcelona’s final decision.
With regards to Erik ten Hag’s side, it’s said they have ‘probed’ the Wolves midfielder for next season.
Sport state Neves’ cycle at Wolves would be over after this season. Therefore, he may have to consider a move to Manchester United or another club, if Barca dismiss the possibility to sign him.
At the weekend, Mundo Deportivo reported Barca are annoyed with Mendes’ ‘fixation’ over getting Neves to Barcelona. It was also said Xavi Hernández has made it clear he doesn’t want the Wolves player.
