Ronald Araujo joined the Barcelona set-up in 2018, and the central defender made his way through the club’s B team to become a regular in the first team.

Last season he made 33 appearances, as Ronald Koeman brought him through from the second side, and so far this campaign he’s played 24 matches.

The 22-year-old is still on a Barcelona B contract, and the Camp Nou club clearly thought they could throw him a big pay rise and he’d accept, despite that offer still being much less than what the vast majority of his teammates are paid.

Things, unsurprisingly, haven’t gone to plan, and Manchester United are now routinely linked with a swoop for the player.

Marca keep pushing a potential move to Old Trafford, and the newspaper’s Saturday edition says Manchester United ‘get in the way’ of Barcelona’s attempts to renew the player’s contract.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are pushing for the player, reportedly keen to sign him, and that’s an issue for Barcelona.

However, had the Catalan club simply made Araujo an offer which fits his current status, they probably wouldn’t have to be worrying too much about Manchester United.

The defender’s contract expires in June 2023.
