Manchester City have not yet held contacts with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich about a move to the Etihad, but the Germans are not completely against a sale.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the ‘sensational transfer rumour’ about Kimmich after he was linked with a move to Manchester City in England.
They explain that the report in England has indicated that Pep Guardiola has ‘intensified his interest’ in the Bayern Munich star and he remains an option should Kalvin Phillips depart as expected.
The move would allow him to reunite with Guardiola, who he worked alongside at Bayern Munich and even ‘took his first big steps in professional football’ under him.
However, BILD know that ‘the rumour is not hot’ and there is currently no contact between Manchester City or Kimmich’s representatives.
According to their information, though, at Bayern Munich the idea of selling Kimmich is ‘no longer an absolute taboo topic’ at the club.
Bayern are planning a big January transfer window and that the squad will be broader, opening up the door for Kimmich to depart. Furthermore, with his contract ending in 2025, the coming months are the ideal time to ensure they get a fee for him if he doesn’t extend his contract.
Thus, the opportunity could be there for Manchester City if they do want him, but no talks have happened on that front as yet.
They may also need to convince Kimmich, who is currently moving with his family to their newly built home in Grünwald and feels comfortable in Munich.
He, therefore, might not be too keen on a switch to England even if Manchester City do offer it, which at this moment isn’t happening despite the claims in England.
