Barcelona have been warned that Manchester City won’t ‘give away’ Joao Cancelo this summer and they will need to ‘dig deep into their pockets’ to get him.
That’s according to Sport, who say the defender won’t be an easy signing to secure even after the two clubs struck a loan deal this summer.
They explain that Cancelo, alongside fellow Portuguese star and Joao, Joao Felix, ‘have landed on their feet’ at the club since arriving in the summer.
Nobody at the Nou Camp doubted that the Manchester City man was ‘tremendously necessary’ because the club didn’t have a specialist at right-back and he has filled that void tremendously.
The problem is that both players are currently only on loan and deals will have to be struck with Manchester City and Atletico Madrid to keep them.
The belief is that a ‘titanic job’ awaits director of football Deco to achieve that as getting both on permanent deals that suit and fit Barcelona’s finances ‘won’t be easy’.
Manchester City, in particular, have no intention to ‘give away’ the defender despite him not being a part of Pep Guardiola’s plans moving forwards.
He has a contract until 2027, though, and they know he’s a star player and so won’t give him away cheap. They’ve made it clear that Barcelona will need to ‘dig deep’ if they want a permanent deal.
The plan for Deco is to start talks early to give himself plenty of time to negotiate, and he will be aided by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents both players and wants them at the Nou Camp long-term.
