Following this international break, it’s probably safe to say that Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson managed to steal Alisson’s place in the Brazilian national team.

The Liverpool star hasn’t played any international game since the World Cup, and that has a lot to do with the departure of manager Tite.

When interim manager Ramon Menezes was in charge, Alisson wasn’t even called up for a friendly against Morocco. Then despite being in the squad, he stayed on the bench in the games against Guinea and Senegal.

Coach Fernando Diniz then took the job, and during this international break, in more important World Cup Qualifiers matches against Bolivia and Peru, the Liverpool goalkeeper continued on the bench.

Ederson did very well in both games, and it now seems natural that the Manchester City star becomes the national team’s number one, especially because of the new manager’s style.

UOL today features a piece highlighting that the goalkeeper had 44 completed passes in the match against Peru on Tuesday evening. That was a record for Brazil, and certainly means a lot.

‘Ederson has the characteristic and ease of playing with his feet, a factor that appeals to and adds to the style of play not only of Diniz at the Seleção, but also of Pep Guardiola at the Cityzens. This is also a quality that made the goalkeeper take over as Brazil’s first-choice keeper in place of Alisson, who was left on the bench against Peru and Bolivia,’ UOL writes.

Following the great achievements at Manchester City, Ederson can finally say he’s the number one in the national team as well.
