If you thought Youri Tielemans’ international break couldn’t get any worse, you were wrong, as the Aston Villa player was dropped by Domenico Tedesco for the game against Estonia.

The midfielder then saw Orel Mangala dominate the game in his stead, as his teammates won 5-0 without him, which certainly won’t have played in his favour.

This is, at least, was former football Eddy Snelders feels about the Aston Villa signing’s situation, as he spoke on Sporza, relayed by Walfoot, about the losers and winners of the current international break.

Asked about the former, he said: “For me, Youri Tielemans has been the big loser. Suddenly dropped from the starting XI after a bad game against Azerbaijan, he saw things improve against Estonia with Orel Mangala.

“Tielemans is certainly no longer a fully-fledged starter at the moment, which is a sobering observation for someone with potential.”

If you recall, the player arrived on a free from Leicester City after his contract ran out, and many expected him to slot straight into Unai Emery’s plans.

That hasn’t been the case, however, as the Spanish manager decided to stick with last year’s midfield, leaving Tielemans on the bench for all but one game to date this season.

The midfielder then complained about his situation as soon as the international break started, and while he will have wanted to prove everyone wrong while playing for Belgium, he has done anything but that.
