Manchester City have an advantage to sign Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez, according to Sport.
The left-back has been a regular for the La Liga side since he joined them in 2022 from Real Madrid, who have retained 50% of his rights.
It’s said the fullback has €35m release clause in his current deal and the price will be reduced to €17.5m for Los Blancos, if they want to bring him back to the club.
Gutiérrez seem to have attracted Manchester City’s attention and the report states they could pose a ‘threat’, if the Citizens wish to take him away from the Spanish club.
Sport explain that the treble winners have a ‘privileged position’ to acquire the 22-year-old’s services because of their owners, the City Football Group, who also own Girona.
It’s even claimed Manchester City would have to pay half of the player’s clause, as long as there is an approval from Real Madrid, who have to be informed of the offers Girona will receive for him.
Real Madrid have other plans and are aiming to sign Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies. This could please Manchester City, as long as they want to acquire Gutiérrez’s signature.
Sergio Gómez is the only recognised left-back at the Etihad and has been restricted to 15 minutes of action in the league from two matches. Pep Guardiola has favoured summer signing Joško Gvardiol and Nathan Aké ahead of Gómez for the same position.
Therefore, it would make sense for Manchester City to look for a left-back in the coming windows and Gutiérrez could be an option they could consider.
