Joao Canelo has been offered to Inter Milan as Manchester City look to move him on a permanent transfer this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Portuguese defender will be sold this summer and Manchester City are offering him around trying to find a suitor.
They explain that Cancelo is no longer a part of the plans at the Etihad and hasn’t been in Pep Guardiola’s thinking for well over a year, having spent last season on loan at Barcelona following a short loan spell at Bayern Munich.
Barcelona are keen on a permanent deal but their inability to spend money has seen them already turn down an option to do so.
Even Manchester City’s willingness to lower Cancelo’s asking price, which has ‘dropped significantly’ from €70m to €25-30m, has not helped a transfer move forwards.
Another loan deal remains a possibility but for now Manchester City want a permanent sale and so are offering him around in the hope of finding a suitor.
That’s seen them offer the player around in Italy, first to Juventus and ‘above all Inter Milan’, via Cancelo’s agent Jorge Mendes.
He wants to take the player back to Serie A but at the moment both clubs are cold on the idea, largely because the defender earns €6m per year, which would be around €10m now that Italian teams cannot use the Growth Decree to their advantage.
That’s too much for any Italian team to pay so a return to Italy seems unlikely for Cancelo right now, meaning Manchester City will need to keep looking for a buyer.
