Manchester City are one of the clubs ‘lining up’ to take Xavi Simons next summer if he doesn’t return to RB Leipzig on loan.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say while there is a chance of another year with the German club, there are bigger sides hovering in the background.
The newspaper explains that Simons is currently on loan from PSG and impressing, so much so that his transfer value continues to rise and makes a permanent stay unlikely.
There have been initial discussions behind the scenes, and something of a preliminary agreement over a second loan deal for next season, but that could be taken out of their hands by the clubs ‘lining up’ to take the player.
At €40m, his current valuation according to websites such as Transfermarkt, he would be more than affordable, but that price is rising.
Manchester City might have work to do to convince the player if they firm up that interest as Simons already turned down ‘requests’ from England in favour of moving to RB Leipzig this summer. Whether one of those was from the Etihad isn’t stated.
They, though, are more than interested in the Dutchman and lining up to make a move for him next summer if his current performances continue.
