At the start of this year, Manchester City completed the signing of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate and gave him a contract until 2028.
Manchester City have allowed the 18-year-old to remain at the Argentine club until the end of this year. The attacking midfielder has managed four goals and three assists from 30 games this year.
Back in May, we covered claims from Argentina that River Plate are hoping to reach a fresh agreement with Manchester City to retain him beyond this year. Fast forward to September and TNT Sports mention that again.
It’s claimed the Premier League winners ‘don’t want to know anything about it’. This ‘issue remains closed’ because the Citizens are refusing to budge, and don’t want to let Echeverri stay at River Plate beyond 2024.
This was revealed by River Plate general secretary Stéfano Di Carlo during a chat with TNT Sports. It’s to be noted the outlet haven’t shared any comments from the official.
Therefore, Echeverri ‘will have to go to England’ in January. The report adds Pep Guardiola has to make a decision on whether to immediately include the youngster in his plans.
TNT Sports say Echeverri’s situation may change, and the Citizens could allow him to go out on loan in the winter market. If that happens, River Plate would be keen to take him.
