On April 5th, FcInterNews reported Manchester City are not to be overlooked in the chase for Alessandro Bastoni, as they are keen to sign the Inter Milan player in the summer.
It was also explained the Citizens have been following the 23-year-old for two years and he has the ‘exact technical qualities’ that Pep Guardiola looks for in modern defenders.
Manchester City’s interest is further discussed by InterLive.it, who also give an insight into the Serie A side’s stance on his potential sale in the summer.
The Nerazzurri have to raise €60m to balance their books and would have to raise more funds if they don’t qualify for the Champions League next season. Inter are fifth in the table, one point behind fourth placed AC Milan.
Should they miss out on the Champions League, Inter would have to seriously consider evaluating offers they’ll receive for some of their ‘untouchables’.
Bastoni is included in the list and it’s claimed Inter could ‘sell him’ if they receive an offer of €55m.
If Manchester City were to table a €55m bid, the Italy international ‘could leave’ the San Siro, even if he extends his contract beyond 2024.
Inter haven’t found an agreement with Bastoni over his renewal. He’s asking for €6-7m per year while Simone Inzaghi’s side aren’t willing to go beyond €5.5m annually. There’s still distance and what’s ‘certain’ is Inter don’t want to see him leave for free in 2024.
Calciomercato also discuss Bastoni’s contract situation and Manchester City interest. They say he currently earns €2.8m per year and is demanding €6m to renew his deal. Inter, on the other, are offering €4.5m plus bonuses.
Manchester City have been following him for years and there could be a ‘turning point’ in the next window. Without an extension, Inter would benefit from Bastoni’s sale to ‘avoid’ repeating ‘old mistakes’.
Inter will see Milan Škriniar leave for free in the summer and want to avoid a similar case with Bastoni in 2024.
