Manchester City are ‘desperate’ to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, with Liverpool now in a ‘waiting position’.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who report that Bayern Munich are preparing an initial offer for Wirtz but face competition from both sides.
They explain that while all signs may point to Wirtz ending up at Bayern Munich, the German champions are unclear on whether they can reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the midfielder. Thus, Wirtz is keeping his options open.
He set the transfer market on fire this week with an impromptu trip to Blackpool, where various reports have stated he met both Liverpool and Manchester City.
Sky say Manchester City are particularly keen, in fact they are ‘desperate’ to sign the 22-year-old this summer. Pep Guardiola is the one pushing the interest as he sees Wirtz as the successor to Kevin de Bruyne, who is set to leave at the end of the season.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are in a ‘waiting position’. They were always seen as outside contenders, largely because of the huge fee required to sign Wirtz, and it seems that’s the position they’re taking up.
What is clear is that we’ll be seeing plenty about Wirtz this summer as he looks to move but Bayern Munich worry about working out a deal with Leverkusen.
