For the past couple of weeks, almost every time we’ve checked the Latin American press, we’ve Sheffield United being linked to Roger Martinez from Club America.
There had been several reports about the chase, especially because he seems on the verge of leaving the club, although we were still to see any claims of bids or talks for the transfer.
Things got more serious when his father confirmed the Blades’ interest in signing the striker, saying he was expecting God to help them with the transfer.
But now, America manager Miguel Herrera has spoken to the local press, and says there’s no approach to sign the 25-year-old so far.
“For Roger there are no approaches from anyone,” Herrera told ESPN.
Covering the claims, website America Monumental says Sheffield United ‘are the club who have shown the biggest interest’, but there’s been ‘no official contact’ for the Colombian star.
So perhaps it’s time to put these rumours to bed, since they haven’t been bringing anything new for some time. We’ll only cover them again in case something relevant is reported.
