Ternana manager Benito Carbone has told the Italian media he believes his star forward Felipe Avenatti would be a success in England. The Uruguayan could leave the Serie B club in the summer on a free transfer, and has been linked with Leeds United in recent months.

Ternana News have reported on comments Carbone made in his press conference today in the lead up to this weekends. The former Leeds United consultant was asked about Avenatti after the 23-year-old this week praised his Carbone.

The Ternana boss said Avenatti would be perfect playing in England in the same way he’s impressing in Italy this season. Carbone believes the player has the attributes to play in England, but still hopes tokeep the attacker at the club.

“To tell you if Avenatti can be good for English football I would say that for now he’s fine at Ternana, because he serves us, but certainly with his characteristics he can do well anywhere, in England, Spain, in Germany… I hope to still have him here for long time, ” said Carbone.

Only yesterday we reported on comments Avenatti made to the Umbrian media when he confirmed no contract extension has yet been offered to him by his club, meaning other clubs like Leeds United can speak to him in January with regards to a pre-contract agreement.

Leeds United did try to sign the South American in the last window as Garry Monk looked to bolster his attacking options, and he is likely to be impressed with Avenatti’s goalscoring form this season.
