With the rumours linking Corinthians manager Vitor Pereira to the Wolverhampton Wanderers job this week, there was a bit of a tense mood at the Timão’s match last night.
Following their 2-0 loss to Fluminense at home, there was a meeting in the dressing room which delayed the press conference. And even though many people thought the coach could be communicating his exit to the squad, he and the president ended up walking to the interview to say there’s no decision as it stands.
One of the reasons Pereira was said to be looking to return to Europe and, consequently, possibly taking charge of Wolves, is that his family and staff would like to leave South America at the end of this year.
The manager’s mother-in-law is currently sick, and with his wife taking care of her, the couple have been forced to live very far away from each other.
So during the press conference last night, there was a question presented by journalist Marco Bello Jr. Amid this complicated situation, the reporter asked Pereira: “Who runs your house, you or your wife?”
The manager refused to respond to that, claiming he’s more polite than the journalist. And in the rest of the interview, he pointed out that there’s no decision on his future for now, with his words backed up by club’s president Duilio Monteiro Alves.
Vitor Pereira was linked to the Wolves job right after Bruno Lage was sacked earlier this month. With the Molineux side not finding a replacement yet, he apparently continues to be one of the options, as his commitment with Corinthians ends soon.
