While there were many standouts during the World Cup in Qatar, few impressed as much as Brighton & Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister.
Avid watchers of the Premier League will have already been aware of the Argentine’s capabilities following his early season performances with the Seagulls under both Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi, but many around the globe will have been clueless to what he was capable of.
Many took note, including Juventus, which is why Max Allegri has his sights set on the Brighton midfielder, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
They write that the Argentina international is the man he has in mind to replace Adrien Rabiot should the Frenchman leave on a free, but that move could ‘be brought forward in case a suitable offer’ for Weston McKennie arrives in January.
Allegri would be willing to let the USA star go ‘to get a profile like Alexis Mac Allister’, who currently plays at Brighton.
They point out that those covering the transfer market believes that won’t be the case for very long, as the player has ‘many admirers around Europe, as well as in the Premier League’.
The Juventus manager was ‘decidedly impressed’ by the Brighton midfielder’s performances in Qatar and a ‘survey has already been done’.
Down their end, the Seagulls are in ‘no hurry to sell’ and the Serie A side are expected to be there as long as the fee ‘doesn’t get prohibitive’, meaning ‘above €50m’.
Considering this is Brighton, who sold Marc Cucurella for €60m or so in the summer, it seems almost impossible that a World Champion will go for less, meaning that, in the grand scheme of things, Juventus might end up being outbid.
