After negotiating for a new deal for most part of the last season, David de Gea signed a new contract at Manchester United in September and his current deal runs down in 2023, with an option to further extend it by a year.
The goalkeeper climbed up through the ranks of Atlético Madrid’s youth system before making his way into their first team.
However, the club he supports in Spain is Elche, according to Cope Elche, as relayed by today’s edition of AS. It’s claimed the Spain international is interested in taking over the club that he loves.
He and his agent Jorge Mendes are in contact with Elche’s majority shareholder and former president José Sepulcre, with the idea being they could take control of the Segunda Division side.
Cope Elche states De Gea and his representative are willing to offer €18m to become the new owners of the Spanish side.
The same report states Sepulcre is in talks with another agent, Christian Bragarnik, who is also interested in taking over Elche.
