Over the past week, several reports coming out of Germany have mentioned Manchester United interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
Claims elsewhere have stated the Red Devils are joined by Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the chase for the right-back.
Bild have relayed it and then share their own update on this case, which would be in favour of Manchester United.
It’s said the Bavarian club have not held discussions with the Dutchman’s camp and he’s not included in their target list. Erik ten Hag’s side, on the other hand, want the 22-year-old and their ‘interest has been there for months’.
Frimpong, for his part, should ‘clearly tend towards’ making a switch to Manchester in the summer. Bild state he’s in love with the city, where he arrived from Amsterdam with his parents when he was seven years old.
The fullback was at Manchester City’s academy and aims to return to the city to join their local rivals. A deal in the summer is possible as the report explains Leverkusen have a ‘pain threshold’ of €50m.
“First of all, he still has a contract with us until 2025, that’s a good situation. For Jeremie, applies what applies to all our young players: none of them have fully developed their potential yet. We are then required to develop them,” Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said.
“And Jeremie is a good example of that: He was already that fast, but he has improved enormously over the past two and a half years with the ball, how he deploys his team-mates and how he prepares goals.”
Frimpong has mainly operated as a right wing-back while has also been deployed on the right side of defence this season. He’s managed eight goals and nine assists from 36 games.
