Manchester United ‘want’ AS Monaco fullback Vanderson, according to a report from Sport on Friday.
The 21-year-old was one on the front page of today’s Sport as he has been identified as one of the options for Barcelona to strengthen their right-back position.
There was no mention of Manchester United in the newspaper, but their interest is discussed online.
Xavi Hernández has asked the La Liga side to sign new fullbacks. César Azpilicueta was the main target for the right side of the defence, but his decision to extend his stay at Chelsea has forced them to look at other options.
The Blaugrana have already made a move as their sporting director, Mateu Alemany, has contacted the Ligue 1 side. Manchester United have also ‘launched themselves for the signing of Vanderson’.
It’s said the Red Devils have asked Monaco to keep them up to date with any movements Barcelona may make for the player. Erik ten Hag’s side are not only willing to match the Camp Nou side’s offer, but also ‘improve the transfer price’.
The report says the ‘forcefulness shown by United’ can ‘curb’ the Catalan club’s interest in the South American. Barca will not enter into a bidding war with the Premier League side, who are keen to bring new reinforcements to Old Trafford before the window closes.
Surprisingly, Sport don’t mention that Vanderson signed a new five-year contract at Monaco two days ago. He has started in every match they have played so far this season.
