The Italian media’s love for the rumour mill would alone be enough for some big coverage of Manchester United’s pursuit for a new manager. Now with Antonio Conte seeming to be the first option to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there’s one more reason for many reports to come from the manager’s country.

The latest update on this chase comes from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who now says the Red Devils may go for the former Inter Milan boss.

It’s claimed that Manchester United’s leadership are currently ‘evaluating’ the chances of sacking Solskjaer and already ‘look around’ for a replacement.

Conte is said to be ‘the first on the list’, as the purchase ‘can soon get serious’. The strongest alternative for him is said to be Zinedine Zidane.

Di Marzio adds that Solskjaer has the support of ‘prominent figures’ at Old Trafford, including Sir Alex Ferguson. However, the club currently make ‘significant reflections’ on his position.

Earlier today, reports from Spain claimed that Zidane doesn’t want a new job for now. That would make Conte the most likely option for the Red Devils in case they do confirm Solskjaer’s departure.
