It’s been close to a week since Newcastle United and Steve Bruce mutually agreed to part ways, and the Tyneside club are yet to appoint his successor.

The Magpies were recently purchased by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the new owners want to bring in a manager who can take the club forward.

Currently, they are 19th in the table after nine matches and are yet to register their first league win of the season. Paulo Fonseca seems to be one of the main candidates to take the vacant job at St James’ Park.

Gennaro Gattuso’s name is now linked to the same role, if reports coming out of Italy are to be believed. The ex-AC Milan midfielder is without a job since leaving Napoli at the end of last season.

Italian journalist Fabio Santini, who appeared as a guest on 7 Gold’s program, Il Processo, states Gattuso is willing to accept the Newcastle job if he’s offered a short-term contract.

“Attention: there is a sensational twist for what concerns Gennaro Gattuso. The coach could land in the Premier League, at Newcastle,” Santini said, as relayed by Area Napoli.

“The Calabrian coach would also accept a fixed term contract until the end of the current football season.”

Santini’s comments don’t make it clear whether Newcastle are interested in Gattuso but if they are, the journalist suggests the latter could be in favour of accepting the job.
