Having spent the previous season at Inter Milan, Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku returned to Italy, by joining AS Roma on a loan deal last summer.

The striker has managed 16 goals and two assists from 30 games this season. Recent claims in Italy have stated the Serie A side aren’t willing to buy the Chelsea owned player, partly due to the cost involved.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to dismiss this and share his own information on this case.

He says the Serie A side’s officials are very happy with the 30-year-old, but there’s been no concrete negotiations with Chelsea so far, to extend Lukaku’s stay.

Tavolieri states the Giallorossi ‘could be interested’ in keeping the Belgium international at the club for a long time, by finding an agreement with the Blues.

Lukaku’s deal at Chelsea lasts until 2026 and is unlikely to return to the west London club after this season. The journalist adds he could consider a move to MLS after the European championship.

On Thursday, the Chelsea man scored the equaliser in Roma’s 1-1 draw against Feyenoord in the Europa League, and after the tie, Sky Italia asked him about his future plans.

“Now I’m focused on Roma, it makes no sense to talk about the future now. I want to help Roma win,” he said, relayed by Alfredo Pedullà.

“Doors closed with the past? The life of a footballer is like this, there are positive and negative moments. I’m living a dream, I play in a league that has given me so much, in the end I want to do everything to help Roma win.”
