Dutch legend Marco van Basten has hailed Manchester City defender Nathan Aké, believing he has rarely seen someone play ‘so consistent’.
The icon was speaking on Ziggo Sport, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, following Manchester City’s draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Dutch defender was a starter once again for Pep Guardiola’s side, playing on the left-hand side of a three-man defence in Manchester City’s new look system.
That’s a role he’s taken up to great success in recent weeks, playing as a centre-back in a back three but also as a hybrid left-back when required.
He’s been shining in the role, putting in a series of impressive performances in his best run in the Manchester City team since joining from Bournemouth in August 2020.
It’s seen him earning plenty of praise and Van Basten is the latest to join the hype train, praising the defender after his display against Bayern.
“He doesn’t play flawlessly yet, but very solid and stable,” he said.
“He also makes almost no mistakes, and he is very comfortable on the ball. He is also present with a header here and there. So, he is just a very all-round footballer who continues to perform well and consistently.
“You don’t see that much, players who are so consistent. He can also play at left back and as a centre back. He is also very strong on the ball, and you need that in both those positions.”
