Andre Onana has reportedly begun “major discussions” with Saudi Arabian club Neom as his career at Manchester United continues to fall under question.
French outlet Foot Mercato has delivered the news that the Saudi First Division (second tier) side are in talks with the goalkeeper’s representatives over a possible switch.
The repot does, however, caveat this by saying that Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim “has decided to maintain his faith in him”, with the Portuguese boss feeling that all of the club’s defensive woes cannot be attributed to a single player alone.
Since arriving in 2023 from Inter Milan for around €52 million, the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s time at Old Trafford has been marred by inconsistent displays.
Onana has has conceded 81 goals in all competitions so far, while some of his blunders in net across his two seasons in England have been, to put it lightly, catastrophic.
Former United manager Erik ten Hag essentially ousted David de Gea in favour of the shot-stopper, believing that his ability to pass and come out his box were fundamental for the way he sets his side up.
Foot Mercato also state that Onana is also open to leaving Europe for Saudi Arabia, so it would likely be up to the United recruitment staff whether they would be willing to enter formal talks with Neom.
