César ‘Chino’ Huerta came ‘very close’ to signing for Liverpool, report Mexico’s TUDN.
Claims regarding the 23-year-old started earlier on Thursday, with it explained the Premier League club were in talks with Club Universidad Nacional, better known as Pumas, and agreed a deal for the player to move to Europe.
However, Liverpool first wanted to loan him out to a Championship club so that he could gain further experience and get a taste for English football.
Then, if that worked out, he’d be brought back to Anfield for next season.
Sunderland was the club chosen, but that idea collapsed and Liverpool haven’t been able to find another club they feel is suitable in the limited time left.
Despite that, there’s some hope for the future.
Mexico’s Claro report that Pumas were very open in negotiations with Liverpool, not putting any big obstacles in the way of Huerta chasing a dream move.
There’s no figures attached to the claims, but it’s stated the Reds were impressed with how Pumas behaved and will therefore continue their pursuit in the coming months… with an eye towards the January window.
