Two days ago, Sport Mediaset reported Juventus must beware of Liverpool in the race for Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners. It was also stated the Merseyside club have made contact over a potential deal in the summer window.
Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli is working on renewing Adrien Rabiot’s contract and also on signing Koopmeiners.
According to Quotidiano Sportivo, the Old Lady will find it difficult to sign the Atalanta star, mainly because of Liverpool.
Koopmeiners is the main midfield target for the Serie A side, ahead of Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson.
It will cost them €60m to sign the Netherlands international while Ferguson, who’s on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, is valued at €40m and will only return to the pitch in October. Therefore, the focus is now on the former.
It’s claimed the Turin club will face problems to sign the 26-year-old, with both cost and competition, because ‘there is Liverpool’. La Dea made it to the Europa League semi-final after overcoming the Reds.
Liverpool are ‘strong on him’ and were impressed with the Dutchman’s displays against them in the European competition. The Reds also have better economic arguments, both to pay the fee and offer a better deal to the player.
Therefore, Juventus will find it ‘difficult to compete’ with Liverpool, and there’s a feeling that they are behind the Premier League side in the transfer race.
Taking all these factors into account, Quotidiano Sportivo state Liverpool appear to ‘have the advantage’ to sign Koopmeiners in the next window.
