Liverpool have made advances to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, according to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide the latest on the Reds’ pursuit of the right-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced his decision to leave Anfield when his contract runs down in June. Liverpool have identified Frimpong as the candidate to replace him in the summer window and this has been repeatedly reported over the past few days.

On Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen managing director Fernando Carro insisted the 24-year-old’s exit isn’t imminent.

Plettenberg says the Premier League winners are making progress to secure his services and reports they are ‘on the verge of reaching a verbal agreement’ with Frimpong. He adds that discussions will continue to sort out the details of the agreement.

Arne Slot seems to be leading the transfer pursuit as he’s ‘very keen’ on bringing the Netherlands international to the Merseyside club. The player, for his part, is also ready to join the English champions.

Frimpong has a €35-40m release clause. Plettenberg says Liverpool haven’t concluded the operation yet but it’s on the right track.
