Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is a big fan of Kylian Mbappé and claims from 2021 stated the German was in constant contact with both the Paris Saint-Germain star and his environment.
The forward has a deal lasting until 2024, with an option for another year. L’Equipe say there’s suspense around his future after he refused to activate the option until 2025.
It’s claimed the 24-year-old will carefully evaluate the options, to make a ‘crucial decision’ for his career. Real Madrid are always there to sign Mbappé while ‘Liverpool don’t give up’.
When he was at Monaco, L’Equipe point out Klopp took a private plane to hold talks with Mbappé in the first half of 2017. Since then, the Merseyside club have ‘always believed in their chances’ of securing his services.
The newspaper indicates it would be a surprise to see the Frenchman at Anfield but this possibility shouldn’t be dismissed yet.
L’Equipe also state: ‘At the same time, it is ensured internally that regardless of the final choice of the player, the financial agreement reached in August between the attacker and the president protects the club from a free departure without compensation.’
Liverpool, who have maintained contact with Mbappé’s camp, are expected to be in the picture to sign him, along with Real Madrid.
His future needs to be sorted out and L’Equipe add there won’t be any significant progress made until the first half of 2024.
