Liverpool’s open interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has ‘frightened’ Manchester City, and they’re now keen on him too.

That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who says Manchester City have firmly joined Liverpool in the developing race for the midfielder.

Musiala’s future at Bayern has been brought into question over the last couple of weeks as he’s found himself out of the picture under Thomas Tuchel this season.

That’s led to speculation that he could look to depart the Allianz Arena and move elsewhere in search of the regular playing time that he and his team think he warrants.

Reports in Germany have made it clear that he is not yet pushing to leave Bayern and there is no pressure at this moment in time, although they are concerned that talks over a new deal are yet to progress.

The stance has always been that a transfer is more likely next summer if things continue as they are and Liverpool sitting in the wings waiting to make a move if the window of opportunity opens.

Manchester City are also known to be admirers, though, and Falk claims the interest from their rivals has now led to a change in strategy at the Etihad.

“We reported exclusively last week that Musiala is a desired object of Jurgen Klopp, who absolutely wants to bring him to Liverpool,” he said.

“In doing so he has frightened the competition. Yes, now Manchester City want to intensify their effort. We’ve heard they are very, very interested.

“Everyone knows that they can lure Musiala to their club and Liverpool will now have Manchester City at the table, while Real Madrid are very interested as well. Bayern are doing everything they can to keep Musiala in Munich.

“He cost them €200,000 and is now worth €110m. That’s what a player like that would cost if you want him, but that isn’t that much anymore.”
