It’s not too unfair to say Naby Keita hasn’t had the impact at Liverpool that many hoped for. Jurgen Klopp hoped he’d found a solution for the future of the club’s midfield, but instead Keita was more of a bit-part player.

With a contract expiring at the end of June, Keita’s time at Liverpool is coming to an end. It’s unlikely there’ll be a late change of heart and a renewal offered so it’s now a case of finding a new home.

Sunday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, a Catalan newspaper, pushed forward Barcelona interest. It’s stated Keita has ‘begun to accumulate notable interest’, and he’s one of ‘several’ on the agenda at the Camp Nou.

Reading between the lines from Mundo, this seems entirely based on the prospect of him being free in the summer. It’s accepted he hasn’t shown a high enough level at Liverpool, but that free-transfer temptation is still there.

Therefore Barcelona interest seems hugely fortunate for Keita, and it’s stated there’s also likely to be approaches from Germany.
