Monday saw a number of articles being published in Italy about Napoli’s interest in Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentine midfielder has returned to Spurs following his second loan spell at Villarreal, and with the Italian side sending Tanguy Ndombélé back to London after his own temporary deal, the Serie A side have cast their eye on Ange Postecoglou’s squad once again.
Gazzetta dello Sport have a little bit on the situation, first telling their readers what is being said on these shores about the deal before adding information of their own.
They explain that Tottenham never wanted to consider the idea of a straightforward, simple loan, which is what Napoli came forward with at first, and there is also the issue of his €4.2m/year net wages to overcome.
Therefore, there is ‘still a lot of work to be done’ to get negotiations started, which could then turn into an operation taking place.
However, to open talks, Tottenham, and therefore Daniel Levy, are asking Napoli to ‘have a redemption obligation’ placed in the loan for the Argentina international.
It’s added that Barcelona are also after Lo Celso, which could complicate matters if not careful, and it’s clear this won’t be easy for Napoli to pull off.
They are sorely aware of how tough Levy can be at the negotiation table, even when it comes to outcasts such as Ndombélé and the Argentine, and considering there is the equally stubborn Aurelio De Laurentiis on the other side, this could be fun to watch unfold.
