Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Ao Tanaka could end up at Leeds United before the window closes on Friday, according to Bild.
VfB Stuttgart recently made a €2.7m bid for the midfielder and it was turned down by the second division German club. The former shifted their focus elsewhere and signed Angelo Stiller from TSG Hoffenheim last Friday.
It’s claimed a track leading to Leeds is ‘now getting hot’ after the Whites made a ‘first offer’ to acquire Tanaka’s signature.
Bild make no mention of the fee proposed by Daniel Farke’s side but state it’s higher than the €2.7m offered by Stuttgart.
The Japan international had informed the 2. Bundesliga side’s leaders of his desire to make a switch to the top division club. Despite this, the report now states it looks like he ‘will go’ to the Championship.
The two clubs haven’t yet found an agreement as Fortuna Düsseldorf director Klaus Allofs and their sporting director, Christian Weber, are ‘still haggling over the last euro’ with Leeds.
There’s belief Leeds and Fortuna Düsseldorf will find an agreement as Bild say the player could move to the Elland Road club in the next few days.
Tanaka managed a goal and three assists from 25 games last season, and has made four appearances this season.
