Isaac Schmidt joined Leeds United in August 2024 and struggled for a prominent role in his debut season.

The fullback was limited to 71 minutes in the Championship from 12 games. His situation at Leeds didn’t stop him from receiving a call up from Switzerland in March.

Last summer, Leeds let the 25-year-old join Werder Bremen on loan with a buying option. He’s played 104 minutes from four matches this season and retained his place in the national team.

OnFriday, Schmidt was an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 2-0 win over Sweden. He will miss their World Cup qualifier against Slovenia later today.

Monday’s edition of Blick reports the Leeds man suffered a foot injury while training with his country.

The newspaper add he left the training camp on Sunday and Switzerland manager Murat Yakin has decided against calling up a replacement.

Bild report the 25-year-old has been in ‘severe pain’ since he suffered a blow to his foot in training. It’s unclear how long he’ll be on the sidelines.

It’s claimed Schdmit will undergo tests in the next few days once he returns to Werder Bremen. The possibility of him missing upcoming fixtures isn’t ruled out.

This bad luck comes after a period of good luck for the player. His loan from Leeds United was always an odd one given he wasn’t going to be first choice for Werder or even close. Injuries to other paved a path to minutes, but now he’s picked up his own.
