Leeds United expect goalkeeper Michael Zetterer to travel to England today, despite him holding out on leaving Eintracht Frankfurt.
BILD report that Frankfurt could see as many as four players leave the German club before deadline day. Zetterer is one of them.
He is not a part of the club’s plans, and they’ve already signed Noah Atubolu as a replacement this week. Zetterer is a player who has been ‘deemed surplus to requirements’ and needs to be sold.
Leeds United have been targeting his signature for several weeks. A deal appeared to be in the final stages.
Sport Witness coered a report last week that stated a weekend trip to Leeds had convinced the 31-year-old on a move to Elland Road and the deal as imminent.
Leeds United deal close
Reports in England backed that up, stating that Leeds had been scheduled and prepared in England. That followed them moving Lucas Perri on to Torino this week.
However, as BILD have learned. Zetterer has not yet given his final approval to the move to Leeds. The newspaper states that ‘further persuasion’ is required. They even suggest that he may want a compensation payment of some sort.
Despite this, Leeds expect Zetterer to fly to England sometime on Friday. It seems they’re not concerned, but the deal is not in the final stages as reports have suggested.
Zetterer delays
At this point, it’s not clear whether Michael Zetterer wants a compensation payment from Leeds or Eintracht. Logically, it would be the German side.
They’ve very much being working to push the goalkeeper out of the club this summer. Reports in Germany have made it clear that Zetterer does not want to leave. The pair have been at odds on that front.
Now with Atubolu through the door, Frankfurt are getting desperate. Zetterer is not playing ball, despite Leeds expecting him to travel today.
