Norway boss Ståle Solbakken has again urged Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge to leave the club and play somewhere else.
The manager has been speaking to TV 2 during this international break, in which Berge has been a key part of his team once more playing for 74 minutes in the 3-0 loss to Spain over the weekend.
It’s a continuation of the club situation for the midfielder, who has featured in 28 games in the Championship for Sheffield United this season and 73% of the available minutes in the league.
He had been linked with a move away from the Blades in the January transfer window, with the player himself admitting recently that there had been talks with Premier League clubs.
That did not end up materialising and he instead remained at Sheffield United, where a decision will have to be made about his future this summer.
That’s because he is set to enter the final year of his deal with the club, meaning it will be a case of selling this summer or losing him on a free next summer.
Solbakken stated last year that he believes his player needs to move on for the sake of his career and that is a stance he reiterated when asked about it by TV 2.
“The next step for him is that he has to leave the Championship,” he said.
“It has nothing to do with Sheffield United, because they are the second-best team there. But it has to do with the football that is generally played there.
“For him to take the next step, it may be good to enter a different culture and structure.”
