It appears that Marcelo Bielsa is up to his old tricks, and his latest move could be one that benefits Liverpool but infuriates one of their players.
That’s according to AS, who have an article discussing the former Leeds manager’s ‘latest madness’, which could be to leave Darwin Nuñez on the bench.
The Uruguay international is considered his country’s main striker, and has had a decent start to the season at Liverpool, meaning this would indeed be a surprise move by Bielsa.
AS explain the manager has in mind to ‘make changes’ in his starting line up against Ecuador, which would include sitting the Reds star in the dug out.
The game is set to take place on Tuesday at 6pm local time, and it’s reported that Bielsa ‘tried a tactical variation’ in the latest training session that didn’t include the Liverpool forward.
Instead, it would be Cristian Olivera who would get the start, and they write that this would be a ‘surprise’, especially when Nuñez had a ‘brilliant performance’ against Chile, where he provided two assists for his teammates and ‘created the most goalscoring chances’.
This came in a game when he wore the number nine on his back for the first time for his country, after agreeing with Luis Suarez that he could.
One to keep an eye on, although Liverpool might not be too mad about it, as they could get a rested Nuñez back.
