A late January move from West Ham for Steven Bergwijn ‘cannot be ruled out’ as they look set to see Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma depart on deadline day.
That’s according to Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, who report that West Ham are still very much in the mix for the winger at this point.
The Hammers have been linked with a potential move for Bergwijn for months but never taken steps to make it happen, instead seemingly sitting in the background considering a deal.
The player is aware of the interest but did not appear to think much would be coming of it at this point, commenting earlier today that nothing was ongoing.
Voetbal International, though, add a little fuel to the dwindling fire, reporting that a move from West Ham ‘cannot be ruled out’.
They explain that Bayern Munich have been in touch with Bergwijn and see him as a potential short-term replacement for Kingsley Coman, but Ajax made it clear they would only sell and not rent.
That’s put that idea to bed for the time being, but Bergwijn may still have ‘several irons in the fire’ regardless of that.
The Dutch international has been ‘receiving interest’ from Saudi Arabia and West Ham United for some time and the Hammers in particular could be pushed into a deadline day move to help cover for Lucas Paqueta and the imminent departures of Fornals and Benrahma.
Thus, is cannot be ruled out that they will make their move for Bergwijn at some point before the window closes, although whether Ajax will sanction a departure late in the window remains to be seen, especially with claims Bayern Munich are also interested.
