Following Real Madrid’s victory in El Clasico over Barcelona, there was huge confidence in the media closest to the club about a Remontada against Manchester City.

Swatting Barca aside and climbing to the top of La Liga, optimism was widespread, with Madrid potentially having a run at the Champions League and La Liga double.

That all came crashing to earth with a 2-1 loss away to Real Betis at the weekend. The Seville club have been enduring a difficult season, so beating Madrid is a huge boost for them, and a big blow for Zidane Zidane.

It may not end there, with AS reporting Thibaut Courtois left the stadium limping.

There’s ‘alarm’ at Real Madrid, and a genuine prospect of the goalkeeper missing the Manchester City match this week. Courtois has picked up an injury to his left leg, and will have to wait until Tuesday to have tests, because it’s too swollen for examinations on Monday.

Should Courtois be unavailable, then it’ll be Alphonse Areola facing Manchester City.
