On Monday, Globo Esporte stated Corinthians have probed the possibility to sign Philippe Coutinho and the Aston Villa player’s agent will do his best to take his client to the club.
Later that day, Lance explained the 30-year-old wants to leave the Villans and is viewed as a good market opportunity by the São Paulo club.
Journalist André Hernan has now backed Corinthians’ interest in the Aston Villa attacking midfielder. After these reports emerged, he got in touch with the club official to get an update on this case.
“Corinthians are interested. I sent a message to a person from Corinthians, the reply was extremely protocol. Speaking like this: ‘Every great player is of interest to a club like “Corinthians’.
I thought it was protocol, but there wasn’t that thing of denying interest either. He didn’t give many details, but he didn’t deny Philippe Coutinho interest either,” Hernan said, relayed by Bolavip Brasil.
Kia Joorabchian, the former Liverpool star’s agent has close ties with Corinthians. Hernan backed Globo Esporte’s claim the representative is pushing for this deal.
Despite Joorabchian’s pushing Coutinho towards Corinthians and their interest in him, it isn’t clear whether he wants to return to Brazil or continue in Europe.
“Aston Villa should not remain with Coutinho and then it would be a search for a new club. Kia Joorabchian, his agent, who is very influential at Corinthians, has already taken other players, wants to make an effort to take Phillipe Coutinho,” Hernan explained.
“But I spoke with another wing that works with Philippe Coutinho in Brazil and this other wing tells me the following: ‘Of course, as much as Kia is willing to help and everything, the project will count more on the player’s will’. This person says that today it is very difficult to imagine an opening of negotiations, an opening of conversations, but that we have to wait to see what will happen and what kind of movement can happen for Coutinho.”
Hernan’s comments focus on Corinthians and Coutinho’s stance on a potential transfer in January.
