Aston Villa are doing their research on Besiktas midfielder Ernest Muci after he starred against them in the Europa Conference League.
That’s according to journalist Sercan Dikme, who has backed up reports that Aston Villa are considering a bid for the 23-year-old.
Muci has been impressing for Besiktas this season since joining them in the January transfer window, with four goals in 14 games in all competitions to date.
Before that he had been earning himself attention at Legia Warsaw, where he had nine goals and two assists in 34 games in all competitions including two in a 3-2 win over Aston Villa and then another in the 2-1 defeat at Villa Park when they met in the UEFA Conference League.
That had reportedly sparked interest from the Villans, who were thought to be considering a move before he ended up at Besiktas.
They’ve been credited with an interest in months and a recent report indicated they were ready to step that up and make an official bid, worth around €20m.
That followed previous reports and even a little bit of public bragging from Besiktas president Hasan Arat about turning them down.
Dikme seemingly decided to do his own digging to get to the bottom of the matter and has now confirmed that Aston Villa are keen.
“Aston Villa like him very much,” he said.
“There was information that they are doing research on the issue, Aston Villa officials recently made a bid of just over €20m for Muci and are getting ready to make an official offer.
“I did research on this subject and there was Aston Villa. Both the technical team and the scout team had positive references about most issues.
“There was always information about the player, saying that he was a testable player.”
