PSV Eindhoven drawing Arsenal in the knockout stages of the Champions League is not the disaster that some believe it is.
That’s according to journalist Jan van Halst, who is confident the Dutch side can prove to be more of a difficult task for the Premier League side than some believe.
PSV Inside cover comments from the journalist today after he appeared on Ziggo Sport to discuss the draw on Friday, in which he ‘went completely against the general opinion’.
Arsenal were drawn against PSV this week, with the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie set to take place in Eindhoven before the second leg at the Emirates eight days later.
It’ll be another meeting between the two sides, who have been regular competitors against each other in recent years, meeting in the Europa League in 2022 and then the Champions’ League group stages in in 2023.
Arsenal came out on top in both of those meetings, winning 4-0 on matchday one of the group stage back in September 2023.
PSV have come on leaps and bounds since that point and Van Halst believes things will be very different this time around.
“They can now show themselves again in the Champions League,” he said.
It couldn’t be more ideal. In the home match against Arsenal, they were competitive, in the away match they were sent back to the Netherlands like little boys on the boat. Now they can show how much they have developed.”
