Liverpool have shown ‘an interest’ in Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti if they decide to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
That’s according to journalist Paolo Bargiggia, who believes the Reds will target the Italian coach if Klopp were to leave in the coming months.
The German is facing increasing pressure at Liverpool amid a disappointing campaign that has seen them slide down the table and suffer a 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League knockout stage meeting this week.
Some are questioning whether Klopp’s successful era at the club is now at an end and if he is capable of reinventing the side as necessary for them to be successful in future.
At the moment there is no suggestion he will be sacked or walk away from his position, particularly as his contract, which he signed in the summer, runs until 2026.
But were there to be a departure, Bargiggia believes Liverpool have already shown an interest in Spalletti thanks to his successful work with Napoli so far.
“Napoli enjoy the deserved international showcase but must also beware of an interest from Liverpool for Spalletti,” Napoli Piu report him saying.
“De Laurentiis, as I had anticipated, intends to exercise the option in favour of the Azzurri club anyway.”
